Why blocking light matters

Light is the single biggest thing telling your brain to stay awake. Even a small amount - a street lamp through the curtains, a charging LED, the grey of dawn - suppresses melatonin and pulls you out of deep sleep without you realising. Your eyelids do not block nearly as much as you think, so a mask makes a real difference.

How much light a mask blocks comes down to the fabric. Our darker shades - Black, Grey, Champagne and Teal - use a denser weave for true blackout, ideal for bright rooms, hotels and long-haul flights. The lighter shades are a softer, silkier option that diffuses light rather than blocking it fully - lovely if your room is already dark and you want comfort above all.

Whichever you choose, the fit is the same: a bamboo-silk feel that is kind to skin and lashes, and a contoured shape that sits around the eyes rather than on them, so there is no pressure and you can blink freely.

Your questions, answered

For most people, yes - especially light sleepers and anyone who cannot control the light in their room. By blocking out light, a mask helps protect melatonin and keeps you in deeper sleep. It is one of the cheapest, most reliable sleep upgrades there is.

Our darker shades - Black, Grey, Champagne and Teal - use a denser fabric for true blackout. The lighter shades diffuse light rather than block it fully, so if total darkness is your priority, choose one of the darker four.

A well-shaped mask with an adjustable, non-slip strap should. The usual reason a mask slips is a poor fit or a flimsy strap - a contoured design that sits snugly around the eyes stays put far better than a flat one.

Yes - a low-profile, contoured mask is designed to be lain on. The moulded eye cups mean nothing presses on your eyes even when your face is against the pillow.

A contoured mask is the safe choice here, because the moulded eye cups leave space around your lashes rather than flattening them. Avoid flat masks that press directly on the eye area.
