Why side sleepers wake up stiff
When you lie on your side without support, your upper knee slides forward and rotates your pelvis, which drags on your lower back and compresses the hip. Hold that position for hours every night and it is no surprise so many side sleepers wake up stiff and achy.
A knee pillow fixes the geometry. Placed between your knees, it keeps your legs stacked and your spine neutral, so the muscles and joints that usually spend the night twisted can finally relax. It is one of the cheapest ways to wake up with less hip, knee and lower-back pain.
The key is a firm, contoured shape that holds its position rather than flattening overnight - which is why memory foam works so well here.
Your questions, answered
For side sleepers, often yes. By stopping your top leg from pulling your pelvis and spine out of line, a knee pillow eases the strain behind a lot of morning hip and lower-back pain. It is not a cure for a medical back condition, but it removes a common everyday cause.
Between your knees, with your legs roughly stacked. Some people also like a thin cushion under the top ankle to keep the whole leg level. Adjust the position for a night or two until your hips feel neutral.
Side sleeping and joint support both matter more in pregnancy, and a knee pillow helps with both. Many find it comfier than a full body pillow. As always, follow your midwife's advice on sleeping position.
A firm, contoured memory-foam pillow holds its shape and position far better than a soft cushion, which tends to slip out. DreamPad is shaped to sit snugly between the knees and stay put.
